Day One: Rethinking the Book 08/26

Participants will learn a brief history of book art from antiquity to modern day interactive books by the instructor. Next, participants will learn to create their own book forms including: concertina and flag books. Finally, participants will learn how to use the Adafruit Circuit Playground Express to produce touch-responsive interactions using light and sound. At the end of the day, we will share our books with one another and discuss what we have learned as well as future possibilities for our inventions.

Day Two: DIY Interactive Books 08/27

Participants will learn techniques for combining circuitry with book forms including experimenting with opening / closing circuits, touch-activated interactions, and sensor-based interactions. We will experiment with the materials available to learn how we can incorporate them into the book structures. Next, the lab is open for experimenting, writing, and creating with the tools participants have learned so far. The instructor will be on hand for troubleshooting and participants are encouraged to collaborate and share their work with each other. At the end of the day, we will share our books and inventions with one another.
