San Francisco / Berlin Digital Artists’ Book
This digital artists’ book is a translation in code of the physical book San Francisco / Berlin. Unlike literature which can be translated simply by transcribing the printed text to digital text, the artists’ book requires an additional translation of sequence, time, and tangible “content.” The result is a kind of synesthesia , where code attempts to reconstruct the fluidity and fragility of the transparent acetate pages of the original but ultimately ends up replacing touch with the only sensation the digital format is capable of accommodating: sight.
