Nothing In That Drawer
Nothing In That Drawer is a sculptural adaptation of the sonnet “Nothing In That Drawer” by poet Ron Padgett. 14 miniature drawers are grouped according to the sonnet structure of 4 + 4 + 4 + 2. To read the poem, the reader pulls open the drawers to find the words letterpressed on the inside of each drawer in a red ink that vanishes as the poem continues, culminating in a dry stamp. This motion of opening and closing the drawers is a physical invocation of the poem’s meter and somewhat humorous, somewhat melancholy sentiment. Made of arctic white book cloth and book board.
